Do I Need Duct Cleaning

Air Duct Cleaning

Duct cleaning isn’t something we think about very often. Since ducts are hidden inside your attic, it’s easy to forget they are there and that they might need to be cleaned and maintained from time to time. If you see dust coming from your ductwork through the vents when the air conditioning is turned on or if dust is coating the vents and returns of your grill or return air register, you may need duct cleaning.

Why you need duct cleaning

A Cleaner Home

Dirty ductwork causes dust and dirt to spread quicker in a home. No matter how often you dust and clean your home dirty ductwork allows fine contaminants, including bacteria and allergens, to flow from room to room. This can possibly trigger health issues, or can worsen allergies and issues that are already a problem.

Energy Savings

Dirt and dust also restrict the flow of your HVAC system’s heating and cooling. If your condensing coils are clogged from dirt and dust in the system, your air conditioner will not be able to cool as well. In the winter, heat exchangers cannot warm as efficiently is there is dirt and dust clogging it.  This will cause your energy cost to rise. Keep your ductwork clean for energy savings.

Better Air Quality

Mold in your ductwork and HVAC system can lead to some very serious health problems. Each time the HVAC unit is turned on, thousands of microscopic mold spores blow out of your air ducts and are circulating in your home or office. Mold in your ductwork can lead to numerous health issues which include sneezing, sore throats, asthma attacks, headaches, shortness of breath, bronchitis, and pneumonia (just to name a few). Since your ductwork is essentially the “lungs” of your home, it is important to keep it and your HVAC unit free of mold.

Changing your air filters on a regular basis can help keep your air clean and help prevent dust and dirt in your ductwork. Any blockage in your ductwork will prevent the air to flow properly. So always remember, the easier it is for the air to flow through your air ducts, the better your air quality will be and the better your system will perform.
